The Hansestadt Wismar looks back on almost 800 years of history, which has shaped the townscape decisively over the centuries. In 1229 Wismar was mentioned for the first time. Already the oldest Stadtsiegel with the symbol of a cog is characterized by Wismar as a seestadt. The historic town center with its large brick churches and carefully restored burghers, the Fürstenhof, the unique market square with its waterfront in the Renaissancestil and the oldest house, the "Old Sweden" from the year 1380, the baroque buildings from the Swedish era Through the old town flowing pit, last preserved artificial watercourse, the Old Harbor ... lively history everywhere.
In addition to the glamorous time of the Hanseatic League, the Swedish period was one of the most important sections in Wismar's history. Typical of this are, among others, the commandant's house at the market square, the Zeughaus, the Swedish heads at the Old Port.
